WATER SERVICES SPECIALIST

Workplace Introduction

Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities represents more than 750 municipal electric, gas, water, and broadband utilities statewide, and maintains a marketing relationship with more than 185 associate member businesses. IAMU represents its members before the Iowa Legislatures, administers mutual aid programs, offers job training and safety programs, co-sponsors the Iowa Public Agency Investment Trust, and sponsors the Safety Group Insurance Program.

Position Purpose
This position is responsible for providing one-on-one technical assistance to Public Water Systems within Iowa.

Job Functions
Provide technical assistance to Public Water Systems covering 3 areas of maintaining a viable water system (technical, financial, managerial)
  • Budgeting
  • Lead service line assessment/program planning
  • Record keeping
  • Operator training
  • Financial oversight planning
  • Asset management
  • Lead & Copper Rule compliance
  • Succession planning
  • Capital Improvement Planning
  • Promote SRF program
  • Provide support for project application process, funding options and monitor project process

Collaborate with IAMU staff to develop and conduct workshops
  • Presentation development
  • Assist with creation of training materials
  • Workshop event planning

Research and respond to member questions

Represent IAMU in public appearances and on committees

Provide training to board members, councils, city staff and any other stakeholders


Working Conditions
  • Will require travel and some amount of overnight lodging

Requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present in a classroom environment
  • Desire to provide excellent customer service to members
  • Ability to perform a variety of computer functions along with audio/visual equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Driver License
  • Be able to attain any license, certificate or endorsement that might be required for the position at IAMU expense
  • A favorable background check and drug and alcohol test are required as part of employment

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors of Science degree/background (environmental, biology, or engineering degree) or water/wastewater degree/certificate; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with water utility operations and management
  • Knowledge of the regulations affecting public water supplies and utilities, preferred
  • Desired but not required Water Treatment, Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator License

Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range: $60,000 - $75,000 annually
